Albania Holidays
Albania is a small, but beautiful, country on the Balkan Peninsula, in South Eastern Europe. It is near the Adriatic and Ionian Sea's and also Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia and Greece. Much of the country is mountainous, and it is well known for its mountain scenery, however it also has a lot of forests. The Drini is the main river but it also has several Lakes - Lake Ohrid is one of Europe's deepest. Albania also offers one of the largest and finest archaeological sites in the world, but if you need more action there is plenty of activities, swimming, snorkling and others, along the seafront. There are also oppurtunities to hand feed fish in some of the more secluded spots! Albanias coastline is one of its greatest attractions. It stretches over 450km where two distinct zones appear, the Adriatic and the Ionian. The Adriatic has shallow water and long sandy beaches, where as the Ionian coast, 150km long can only be described as fabulous; the beaches are smaller and rocky and the water is deep, right on the shore. Citrus and olive trees dominate the landscape, giving it a classical Mediterranean beauty. Albania have a quirky custom worth mentioning - they nod their heads to say no, and shake their heads sideways to say yes - this is the opposite of most other countries. You should bear this in mind when interacting with the locals.
