Solar Energy Savings
Domestic solar power can be used in two different ways. Solar panels or slates can convert the sun’s energy to heat in order to provide hot water, or photovoltaic tiles can create electricity for use in the home. Both types of domestic solar power will not only save you money but will also significantly reduce the CO² emissions from your home, lowering your‘carbon footprint’.
Although the installation costs are quite high, generally a few thousand dollars, most homes should see a decrease of about 50% on energy bills - Over a few years, the system will pay for itself. You may also be able to get government grants to pay for some of the installation fees.
But ti doesnt stop there - When you generate your own energy, you may produce more than you need (for example, during certain times of the day when the sun is very strong). To ensure any excess electricity isn’t wasted, you can arrange to sell it back to the energy provider.
You can also make savings by using solar powered lights in the garden or shed. These are traditionally electricity based, and the longer you have them on, the more it costs you. With solar power however, there is no further costs, other than the initial purchase/installation costs.
Energy Saving Tip: Turn lights off when a room is empty. Use natural light as much as possible. If you use a light for an average of four hours or more a day, fit an energy saving light bulb. It will use around a quarter of the electricity and will last ten times longer than an ordinary bulb.
