Why You Should Use A Proper Page Title
A lot of websites are designed and written by designers only focusing on the presentation of the site - it is not uncommon for the simple things to be missed. This includes Page Titles. The Page Title is the description that should appear in the top of the web browser. This description tells your visitors what your site, or page is about. It is also one of the
first things your vistors will see - This is also true for visually impaired visitors who may be using voice software. For this reason, this is one of the most important aspects of your site. However - search engines also look at the page title as part of the link generation after a
search. You need to focus on the keywords you expect people to search for. This may not be
the actual company name - unless you have a large corporation with brand recognition already,
but perhaps what the company specialises in. The page title is also used by (most) web browsers as the default name for a page bookmark,
or favourite. If there is no title, or it is poorly worded, a user is more likely to delete the
item, if they do not remember what it is. You do not want this, as favourites/bookmarks will mean vistors are more likely to return, as they found somethnig they liked at your site. To conclude - as has already been answered, If you want people to know what they are looking at, at to return to your site, use descriptive page titles. |
